Foods for a healthy brain

Do you have an exam to study for?  Are you having trouble memorzing names or phone numbers?  Can’t remember where you placed your car keys or where you parked your car?  Add these foods to your diet for optimum brain health! 

Nuts and Seeds

Nuts and seeds are good sources of vitamin E and omega-3 and are necessary for a well-functioning brain.  Sun flower seeds contain thiamine which enhances memory and our thinking skills.  Eat 1 ounce a day of any of the following: walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, almonds, cashews, peanuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and flax seed. 

Berries

Berries have lots of antioxidants.  Blueberries protect against brain damage and improve both the learning capacity and motor skills.

Eggs

Eggs are not only a great source of protein but they contain choline which is good for memory development and improving cognitive functions.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene an antioxidant that boosts mental power and can help prevent dementia. Lycopene is best absorbed cooked so adding tomato sauce to a dish is the best way to get its benefits.
