Depressed Often?

Fried Foods & Depression

By Alya Alyssa Kattan

Do you eat a lot of fried foods?  Could that have anything to do with your sour mood?

There have been several studies reporting that eating fried foods over time can lead to depression.  The brain needs certain nutrients to function properly and a diet that’s not complete with all nutrients can contribute to depression.

Solution:

Eat a Mediterranean-Type Diet

This diet includes plenty of fruits, nuts, vegetables, cereals, legumes, and fish.

A study found that depression tended to increase in men — especially smokers — as folate intake decreased.  Depression increased for women but for those with a deficiency in B12. Folate is found in legumes, nuts, many fruits, and dark green vegetables. B12 is found in lean and low-fat animal products such as fish and low-fat dairy products.

 Get Vitamin D

A new study found that the likelihood of being depressed is higher in people who are deficient in vitamin D compared to those who are sufficient in vitamin D.
