Sushi—a Delicacy or Poison?

I absolutely loveeee sushi!!  If it was up to me I would eat it every day!  So you could imagine how upset I was when I heard something negative about the consumption of sushi on the Drs TV show.

Highlights from the show:

Eating sushi can be harmful for your health because it contains high mercury levels (especially sushi that contains salmon).  This is my weakness—I love spicy tuna rolls :(!

Dangers of high levels of mercury

  • Irregular heartbeat
  • High blood pressure
  • Birth defects so make sure that your levels are low before becoming pregnant!

Home Remedy for Mercury Poisoning

In a glass tea pot combine 8 TBS of finely minced cilantro in 1 quart water.  Place on stop on medium high heat, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.  Eat the mixture throughout the day for 2-3 months.

So does that mean you have to stop eating sushi?  Of course not! 

The solution:

  • Eat it in moderation.
  • If you’re pregnant, eat only 1 serving of sushi a week and never eat it raw because it contains parasites and mercury.
  • Get your levels of mercury checked often.
