“Eat This & Not That”

Here are some easy ways to cut calories and fat without feeling deprived.  You can still eat your favorite foods without putting on weight just have smaller portions, use low-fat versions, or substitute healthier alternatives!

  • Steam your vegetables rather than sauteing them in butter or oil.  You will save anywhere from 150-300 calories depending on how much oil and veggies you use.
  • Feel like snacking? Have dried fruit rather than caramel.
  • Replace bacon with Light & Lean Canadian bacon.
  • Reduce a typical serving of chocolate cake (1/8 of a two-layer cake) by one-third.
  • Use low-fat versions of everything. Drink skim milk instead of regular.
  • Eat poached eggs instead of fried eggs.
  • Replace 1/2 cup of granola with 2 cups of Cheerios.
  • Instead of using whole milk and eggs to prepare French toast use nonfat milk and egg whites.
  • Snack on an orange and a banana instead of a Snickers candy bar.
  • Replace 1 cup of sweetened applesauce with 1 cup of unsweetened applesauce.
