Heidi Montag is making headlines once again but this time it’s for her recent rapid weight loss and not for another enhanced body part!  She lost 27 pounds in 2 months by running and weight lifting 14 hrs a day.

Obviously this is being a little too excessive and is a very unhealthy way to lose weight.   How much exercise is too much?  Well the American College of Sports Medicine recommends doing moderately intense cardio for only 30 min a day, five days a week, or doing vigorously intense cardio for only 20 min a day, three days a week. For weight lifting, they recommend doing 8 to 10 strength-training exercises, with 8 to 12 repetitions of each exercise 2 times a week.  It is healthy to lose only 1-2 pounds a week.  Below I have listed just a few of the serious health risks caused by exercising excessively.

Dangers of too much exercise:

  • Injuries – excessive exercise strains your tendons and ligaments putting them at risk for tears.
  • Loss of lean muscle mass and bone density.
  • Weakened immune system that makes you more prone to colds and viruses, fatigue, and exhaustion.
  • For women, excessive exercise affects the balance of hormones, leading to loss of period, fertility problems and osteoporosis.

    omg ! is she for real?! 14 hrs of exercise everyday!!
    we all want to lose weight but 14hrs is waaay too much!

    14hrs a day exercise is for people who do not have a life, just gym lolz.

    this is just too much. i mean, spending more than half of your day working out? but i guess when you’re a celebrity you have all the time to spare just to look great.
