Wrinkles & Sagging Skin

By Alya Alyssa Kattan

Stop!  Don’t eat that candy!   Well that is if you want to age gracefully with fewer wrinkles and have firmer skin.

Sugar is so bad for you in so many ways!  It not only can make you fat and cause diseases but it can also age you way beyond your years.  It affects collagen, which allows the skin to remain firm, therefore reducing your skin’s elasticity.

Foods to Avoid

Foods that contain lots of sugar such as soft drinks, chocolate, candy, cakes, muffins, doughnuts, ice cream, desserts, various breakfast cereals, cookies and jello. Also simple carbohydrates such as potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.  These foods are converted rapidly into sugars causing our cells to age.  Dr. Nicholas Perricone, author of “The Wrinkle Cure” says that a plain potato is like eating two candy bars. Limit consumption of fructose because excessive consumption can accelerate aging as well.  You can find it in soft drinks, dairy produce, canned fruit and jams.

Help Slow Down the Aging Process

The best way to stop aging is to consume less sugar. Diet soft drinks are better for your skin than regular soft drinks.  Eat complex carbohydrates like whole grain cereals, brown rice, beans and lentils. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish like salmon and mackerel, and Vitamin B help maintain your skin’s elasticity.
