Carbs aren’t evil even though some popular diets like you to believe otherwise.  Contrary to what you have heard you can lose weight eating carbs.  You shouldn’t eliminate them from your diet completely because they provide energy and other valuable nutrients.  If you’re trying to lose weight, the key to shedding flab is to adjust your carb intake to your activity level.

Here is a simple way to calculate how many carbs you need provided by menshealth.com:

Take your target body weight and multiply it by the following:

  • 1 if you have a desk job, workout in gym several times a week for an hour or less, and your main goal is fat-loss.
  • 2 if you’re a recreational athlete who trains for more than an hour a day.
  • 3 if you’re a competitive athlete who trains multiple hours a day, or if you have a very high metabolism and have trouble gaining weight.

This total indicates how many grams of carbs you should eat every day.  Now you never have to be frightened of carbs again!
