Exercise: It’s My Drug of Choice!

We are all aware that exercise is good for our health-it fights diseases such as blood pressure and cholesterol, helps with weight loss, stress, and fatigue, boosts self-esteem, improves sleep, etc…

But did you know exercise can help a bad memory, varcious veins, and headaches?  The benefits of exercise are endless; it’s medicine for our bodies!  Remember that the next time you feel like skipping a workout.  Below are a few benefits that maybe you aren’t aware of.

Varcious veins getting you down?

  • Well they don’t have to be a problem any longer.  Walking and running are great for improving leg strength and circulation which will help control the level of discomfort caused by existing varicose veins and help prevent you from getting any additional ones.

Forgetting people’s names, phone numbers, and appointments? 

  • Try taking a brisk walk. How might that help the brain? Exercise improves memory by increasing blood flow to the brain slowing the shrinkage of the frontal cortex which occurs with aging.  It also releases proteins that increase the number of connections between neurons and the birth of neurons in the hippocampus.

Suffer from headaches?

  • Exercise can help by forcing the brain to secrete more of the body’s opiate like pain-dampening chemicals.

Have diabetes?

  • Exercise helps lower excess blood sugar.

Depressed: want a natural way to boost your mood?

  • Your best bet is exercise!  When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins, adrenaline, serotonin, and dopamine.  Endorphins are the body’s natural feel good chemicals.  These chemicals work together to make us feel good.

  • It increases healthy circulation which helps keep your skin more healthy and vibrant.  “When the skin of regular exercisers is examined, the impact of their high fitness levels is clearly apparent.
