What’s a Portion?

If you’re trying to control your weight, you need to watch your portions.  But that can be a difficult task if you don’t know how large is an ounce of cheese or 3 ounces of chicken or fish?  Below I have included a few common foods with images so you can visualize what a portion size looks like.  For more images to estimate serving sizes, see men’shealth and foodnetwork.A serving of meat is 3 oz which is the same size as a deck of cards.

A serving of butter is 1 tsp which is the same size as the tip of your thumb.

A serving of cheese is 1 oz which is 6 dice.

A serving of dressing is 2 Tbsp which is same as size of a golf ball.

A serving of dried fruit is 1/4c which is about the size of a large egg or golf ball.

A serving of fish is 3 oz which is size of a check book.
