Slimming Wraps

Have you gained a few pounds recently and need to lose a little here and there fast? Have you tried the mummification approach to weight loss?  I am talking about body wraps.  They are all the rage in Hollywood-celebs from Tyra Banks, Robin McGraw, Coco, Kelly Preston, Kate Winslet, Toni Braxton, and Penelope Cruz swear by them to de-bloat and de-cellulite before red carpet events.  These wraps seem to do it all-give you smoother skin, firm up your trouble areas (abs, tush, and thighs) and help you lose weight and inches 10 or more in an hr!

Can you really wrap yourself slim?

Well they can help you sweat off a few inches and pounds (water weight) by removing excess body fluids and toxins but a word of caution—results are just temporary lasting 1 to 2 days!  The same goes for cellulite; they can temporarily make cellulite look better by plumping up the skin.  So if you have to look good for a special event, these wraps can temporarily make you look like you dropped a few pounds instantly.

Since going to spas can be quite expensive, why not do a do it yourself treatment and save hundreds of $$.

Slimming Body Wrap Recipe:

Materials Needed

  • Herbs
  • Essential oils
  • Plastic cling wrap
  • Sheet
  • Thin towels


1 cup green clay
1/4 cup sea salt
2 tbsp. olive oil
2 cups water


  1. Boil the water and sea salt together until the sea salt dissolves and then turn off the heat and add the remaining ingredients. Allow to cool and then rub the mixture all over your body.
  2. Wrap your body in a sheet or thin towels, or use plastic cling wrap. Start at your feet, rolling or wrapping your legs separately, as if you’re applying a bandage. Then, wrap your hips and torso, then your arms. This can be a little tricky if you do it yourself so you might need someone to help you with the wrapping.  If you’re using a sheet, pull and gather it as tightly to your body as you can.
  3. Lie down for about 45 minutes. Because the process is messy, you can lay down in the bathtub to keep your house clean.
  4. Rinse off using tepid to warm water.  Gently rub and massage the skin as you rinse.  Gently pat your skin dry.  Put on loose clothing to encourage ventilation to skin pores and take it easy for a few hours. The body wrap encourages drainage of the lymph nodes, which offer immune and infection-fighting properties to the bloodstream. Following a weight loss wrap, excess fluids will build up in the lymph system, so drink one or two glasses of water following the wrap to hasten urination and drainage of excess lymph and wastes from the body.

Helpful Tips:

  • If you want to make it a more relaxing and enjoyable experience, add a few drops of essential oils to your recipe.  Herbs such as tangerine, ylang ylang, lavender, petite grain, and rosewood all aid in relaxation and reducing stress.
  • Avoid clay wraps if you have sensitive skin.
  • Clay detoxifies and tightens skin.  Salt draws water out of tissue and when added to a body wrap helps reduce puffiness in the skin.

    Hi Ayla,

    Does regular body massages help in shaping the body and in improving the water retention problem?
    A friend of mine told me that she used to go for full body massages regularly and she saw a good improvement in her shape

      What type of messages? Were they deep tissue? Or specialized relaxation messages?
