Reebok Encouraging Men to Cheat?

Has any one seen this ad from Reebok “Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout”? Shocking right?  This controversial ad stirred up a lot of backlash., a website dedicated to exposing cheaters across the world, didn’t take kindly to the ad and made sure to do their part in getting everyone in the world to see it.  Also founder James McGibney sent a message to Reebok headquarters saying “This form of advertising shows a dishonest and disrespectful attitude towards women and your company should be ashamed to have even placed this ad in various places thinking it would be perceived in any other way. CheaterVille will not stand by and let you keep this ad running without a fight. We will start informing our millions of followers to boycott Reebok until the ad is removed and a public apology is given.”

Rebook quickly ended the ad campaign and removed the signs as soon as they were made aware of them. A Representative of the brand said “I can assure you that Reebok does not condone this message or cheating in any way. We apologize for the offensive nature of these materials, and are disappointed that they appeared at all.”

This is not GOOD for Reebok considering the brand is still trying to recover from last year’s costly lawsuit of $25 million dollars in refunds.  The charges were of false advertising over the claims that their toning shoes worked better than normal shoes for getting muscle into shape.  Poor Reebok!  One problem after another 😦 They just can’t seem to get themselves out of trouble.

I understand what they were trying to do with this ad but I don’t think the message is motivating for most people?  What do you guys think?  Also does this change your opinion of the brand?

Reebok has been going downhill for a while now and this ad is a little stupid but I’m not offended by it though as I can see where they were going with the ad in terms of stocking to working out but they should have done so in a better way!
